Wildfires spread northward as Europe adapts to warming climate

As global temperatures rise, wildfires are increasingly spreading into historically cooler and wetter regions of Europe. UN agencies launched efforts on September 5, 2026, to help European nations prepare for and adapt to the growing wildfire threat.
