New Zealand's National Party contradicted over promised bank levy tax policy

New Zealand's National Party, which promised 'no new taxes' in their 2026 election platform, is still planning to introduce a new bank levy for the following year, as of 25 August 2026. Finance Minister Nicola Willis explained the party's position on the apparent contradiction.
