Man charged after hunting contractor shot on Kawau Island

A 44-year-old man was charged with careless use of a firearm on August 19, 2026, after an Auckland Council hunting contractor was shot and critically injured on Kawau Island. The victim was airlifted to Auckland City Hospital.
